By Elizabeth Hill— We are pleased to be part of the Utah County Democratic Party and the newly formed Women’s Caucus! This is a fantastic year to have created this Caucus as we are celebrating and honoring the women who made the right to vote possible. We began the year honoring some of the women who fought so hard to vote, and have focused on our history as we’ve navigated this new landscape of Covid-19 restrictions.

The Democratic Women of Utah County was formed many years ago. Our focus has been to promote the cause of the Democratic Party and provide a monthly opportunity to socialize with like-minded people in a relaxed and inclusive event and to unite the Democratic women of Utah County and their allies. We welcome the many spouses of our members to this meeting and value their membership! Our group has a rich history of supporting local candidates and working hard for their campaigns. Our early members participated in local summer celebrations with a fantastic float in city parades!

In our monthly meetings, members can expect lively discussions about issues that are important to women. We work toward providing information from the Party and bringing in exciting speakers we hope will inspire us to action and that focus on issues that are important to us: healthcare, climate change, our homeless citizens, local candidates and races, and access to justice for all. We organize volunteer opportunities for our community and hold various fundraisers throughout the year for Project Read and Sub for Santa through the United Way. In November, we honor a woman who has shown to exemplify the qualities we value as women of the Democratic Party with our Stella Welsh Award Ceremony. This year our recipient is Lou Ann Talcott.

In 2002, we created the Democratic Women of Utah County Scholarship that is offered through UVU. Our yearly membership fee of $20.00, goes solely to this scholarship fund. Here is a link if you know of anyone interested in applying for this scholarship.
